Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has raised alarm over plans against the confirmation of the Acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi over alleged age falsication.
In a statement signed by the Speaker, AYA, Mohammed Salihu Danlami said “the attention of Arewa Youth Assembly has been drawn to multiple publications awashed in the media calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to not confirm the Acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi over alleged aged falsification.
“We consequently bring to the notice of the public that those articles were not only sponsored, but concocted and circulated by certain rotten and disgruntled elements who are not happy with the achievements of the Acting Comptroller, so they resolved to smear campaign and cheap black mail aimed at destroying his long and hard built reputation”.
The group decribed the Custom Boss as the best in the history of Nigeria.
“Mr Bashir Adeniyi is a fine, gentle and hardworking Customs Officer with moral upbringing and is corrupt free. Mr Adeniyi has received the prestigious Comptroller-General of Customs Award for the seizure of $8,065,612 million in cash at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in January, 2020”.
“In the over three decades he served the Customs, he has held several strategic positions in the Customs that included Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja and National Public Relations Officer”.
“We call on relevant security agencies to take note and bring an end to such character assassination and campaign of calumny against the AG Comptroller General, we send a strong word of caution to the authors of these fabricated lies to desist from doing so, as there actions are punishable in the eyes of the law and they cannot escape the long hands of the law.
“Finally, we call on Nigerians to give the Acting Comptroller General and Nigeria Customs all the maximum support to securing our borders, improving internal security and also disregard any of such publications as they are not true but remain the action of mischief Makers and enemies of our nation who are not happy to see it progress”.
