Kaduna Gov’t Lauds PLANE Education Intervention

Kaduna State government has commended the UK-funded educational programme, Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) for its education intervention project in the State.

The Commissioner Ministry of Education, Kaduna State, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello during the Quarterly Programme Review Meeting with stakeholders yesterday in Kaduna explained that PLANE intervention has improved learning outcomes in Kaduna.

The Commissioner who was represented by Director Planning, Ministry of Education, Salisu Baba Lawal said “PLANE have achieved a lot in Kaduna, in terms of training of our teachers, distribution of books, training of school leadership, it has been very remarkable which is going to continue to improve learning outcomes.

“We are planning to scale-up the intervention to more LGAs because we have seen the impact of this intervention in terms of learning outcomes”.

Presenting the quarterly review, the State Reform Facilitator of PLANE, Mubarak Siraj, noted that PLANE, in collaboration with SUBEB, trained 170 teachers.

According to him, 85 schools successfully hosted accelerated holiday camps, with monitoring conducted by SUBEB and LGEA staff to ensure effective implementation.

He however, explained that coaching and mentoring session were provided to over 60 SSOs and 1601 unique teachers across PLANE intervening LGAS.

Highlighting some of the key achievements in Year 3 Q2, Siraj noted that PLANE supported the State with 743 cartons of exercise books, 17 cartons of pencils, 10 cartons of sharpeners and 24 cartons of erasers.

Siraj identified low attendance among teachers and learners which is largely influenced by the state’s economic situation as the key challenges to delivery.

Earlier in her presentation, the State’s Team Lead, PLANE, Diana Agabi, explained that the objective of the meeting was to assess activity progress, identify existing gaps, and formulate strategic solutions to address challenges.

She also said that the objective aimed at highlighting achievements from the Accelerated Learning Holiday Camp, emphasizing lessons learned for improved future implementation.
