The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kaduna State Chapter on Tuesday visited the Editor of New Nigerian Newspaper (NNN), Comrade Jacob Onjewu Dickson, over his sister’s death.
The Chairman, Comrade Shehu Abdullahi led the delegation of Sports Writers to Dickson residence at Sabo Tasha.
Comrade Shehu Abdullahi who spoke on their visit said, “We are here to stand with Comrade Jacob Onjewu Dickson in this moment of grief. We know that God is faithful, and we pray for the peaceful repose of his sister’s soul.”
Similarly, the Vice Chairman, Okpani Mike Odeh James noted that losing an elder sister is an emotional and psychological blow, describing it as a painful experience.
Odeh said, “She passed away at her prime, and we deeply feel the loss. However, death is an inevitable part of life. Comrade Dickson should take solace in the fact that he is not alone; SWAN stands by him, offering all the necessary support to help him navigate this trying period,” he assured.
Responding, Comrade Jacob Onjewu Dickson expressed his appreciation for the visit, stating that he was overwhelmed by the delegation’s presence despite their busy schedules.
“This visit has further strengthened me. I am truly grateful for this show of solidarity. Tentatively, the burial will take place a week before Easter,” he said.
Other SWAN executive in attendance included, Assistant Secretary Comrade Austine Agbo Emmanuel, Treasurer, Juliet Ekwenugo, as well as Yakubu Obande.
Also at the visit, was Amina Anebi.
Family sources informed that the burial will take place at the family compound at Agboke-Oglewu, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State next month.
Also, the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) also commiserate with the New Nigerian Editor over sister’s demise.
Spokesman of the MBF, Comrade Luka Binniyat described the loss as tragic.
