The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Alhaji Idris Malikawa Garu and Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, following their recent appointments into the management board of Kano Pillars Football Club.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, described the appointments as timely and strategic, particularly in repositioning the club for greater heights in both domestic and continental football.

“The latest announcement by the Kano State Government regarding the management board of Kano Pillars, with the inclusion of professionals, is a cheering one”.

According to Benjamin, the decision to involve well-grounded sports personalities such as Malikawa and Musa reflects a forward-looking approach that aligns with the aspirations of football stakeholders in the state and beyond.

“As sports journalists, we have keenly observed the reactions of teeming Nigerian football lovers, especially Kano Pillars fans, since the appointments were made. Most have expressed optimism and commendation, underscoring the belief that the new leadership will bring positive transformation”.

While Malikawa is widely respected within sports media circles and among football administrators, Musa, a household name in Nigerian football and former Super Eagles skipper, will serve as the club’s General Manager—a development seen as a major boost for the team.

Benjamin urged the appointees to redouble their efforts in meeting the expectations of the Kano State Government, the club’s supporters, and the larger Nigerian football community.
