The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has distanced itself from reports claiming it had entered into a coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the August 16, 2025 bye-election in Kajuru/Chikun Federal Constituency.
In a statement signed on Thursday by the State chairman, Hon. Adamu Idris described the claims as false and the handiwork of impostors seeking to mislead the public.
Idris alleged that one Hon. Nasiru Maikano, who he said is neither a member nor an official of the SDP, had issued a statement suggesting that the party had formed an alliance with the ADC.
“To make the record straight, the said Hon. Nasiru Maikano is not representing or the chairman of SDP in Kaduna State, and SDP is never in any coalition with any political party in Kaduna State”.
The SDP chairman urged the public to disregard the statement, warning that such acts were capable of undermining the prospects of the party in the polls.
He added that the action contravened the party’s constitution and would be reported to the appropriate authorities.
Idris however, reaffirmed that the party’s candidate for the Kajuru/Chikun seat is Comrade Johnathan Maikaratu Wushiri, while also urging residents of Zaria Kewaye and Basawa State Assembly constituencies to ignore the “false claims” of the impostors.
He appealed to party members to remain law-abiding and comply with all Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations before, during, and after the elections.
