The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has commended the bravery and professionalism of officers and men of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, Forward Operating Base, Buratai, Borno State, for their remarkable counter-insurgency operations that led to the rescue of 86 kidnapped victims on 9 November 2025.

In a statement made available to journalists and signed by the Chairman of the Foundation, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu, the foundation lauded the unit for their swift and coordinated response to a terrorist attack in Dutsen Kura, their decisive pursuit to Mangari, and their ability to overcome an enemy ambush—a feat described as a “monumental humanitarian achievement.”

The statement highlighted the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel YM Abdullahi, commanding officer of the unit, noting that his personal courage and tactical brilliance in leading the Quick Reaction Force from the front played a pivotal role in forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and assets.

“In the face of grave danger, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi’s relentless pursuit and exemplary leadership ensured the success of the mission,” the foundation said. “This is leadership of the finest order.”

In a related operation, the unit successfully interdicted a major terrorist logistics network in Mangada, leading to the arrest of 29 suppliers—an action described by the foundation as a strategic blow to the insurgents’ operational capabilities.

The foundation, under the grand patronage of Amb. Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd) CFR, expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen W. Shuaibu NAM, and the gallant troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion. “Their success is a classic model of effective counter-insurgency,” the statement said.

This latest operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s growing capability in counter-terrorism and the dedication of its personnel to safeguarding civilians in insurgency-affected areas. Analysts say the successful rescue of the kidnapped victims not only represents a humanitarian triumph but also delivers a significant psychological and operational setback to the terrorists.

The foundation called on all stakeholders, including government agencies and civil society groups, to continue supporting the armed forces and communities in Borno State to ensure sustainable peace and security.
