The students of Kaduna polytechnic have appealed to the governor of the State, Senator Uba Sani not to relocate the Polytechnic in Sabon Tasha to Rigachukwu.
They also begged governor Sani to allow the campus to remain at Sabon Tasha, adding that if relocated to Rigachukwu it will affect their learning outcomes.
The students made the appeal when they carried out a peaceful protest at the gate of the polytechnic on Thursday.
The students also expressed frustration over the rising cost of transportation and basic necessities, citing the current economic hardship as a major barrier to their academic pursuits.
One of the protesters who spoke to newsmen, Comfort Aganda explained that the relocation will make many students to quit.
She added that the relocation is untimely and unnecessary.
Also, the civil society organization, Eagle Brain kicked against alleged relocation of College of Administrative and Social Studies, Kaduna Polytechnic.
The spokesperson of the Eagle Brain, Daniel Ejembe argued that the planned move would stall the development of the host community, disrupt local economic activities, and limit access to education for many students.
He also appealed to governor Uba Sani to halt the relocation and reconsider the decision in the interest of the public.
He added that education is undeniably the cornerstone of societal development, noting that it shapes minds, fosters innovation, and drives economic growth.
He also noted that College of Administrative and Social Studies has been a vital institution for the people of Chikun Local Government and its surrounding areas, providing invaluable services and opportunities for youth development, he said.
The protesters, who comprised of students, youths, market women and civil society organizations, chanted protest songs and carried placards with different inscriptions such as: ‘No Relocation of Kaduna poly Sabo campus,’ ‘We want Kaduna Poly Sabo campus to remain,’ and ‘No, we won’t allow the relocation of Sabo campus to Rigachukwu’.
