Daily Trust Foundation Trains 21 Journalists On Non-profit Media Management

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Daily Trust Foundation with support from MacArthur Foundation has trained 21  journalists from Northwest on non-profit media management.

The Chairman, Daily Trust Foundation, Mallam Bilya Bala, who spoke during the opening of the training in Kaduna on Tuesday said that the Foundation is very passionate about training and building the capacity of journalists, hence the need for the training.

He explained that the training aimed at equipping journalists with entrepreneurial and digital skills to foster sustainable media ventures.

He added that the programme was designed to assist journalists, especially those running startup outfits, to transition from traditional newsroom roles into successful media entrepreneurs.

Bala emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader vision of strengthening journalism through innovation and sustainability.

“We are doing this Media Lab to assist starter project in the media industry. To help this industry to succeed and media publishers to succeed in case of lost of employment”.

On his part, the  Programme Director of the Daily Trust Foundation, Dr. Theophilus Abbah, said starting media outlet in Nigeria requires a lot of commitment, hard work and consistency, noting that the foundation remained committed to equip journalists with start-up skills.

“The project, Media Enterprise Lab is  one of own contribution to the success of the media  and journalism in Nigeria. There are many media organizations who are struggling to succeed.  So, we put this programme together to help them learn lessons from those who are experienced and successful.

“We have more media organizations who are successful. Learn from them and also we are building media sustainablity in Nigeria”.

Facilitators at the training included the Executive Director, International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), Dayo Aiyetan, Hassan Abdul, the Lead Consultant Drawbridge Limited, Segun Abdulazeez, Jackson Odeh from ISSU Media, Maharazu Ahmed, Dr Abbah, Chief Isiaq Ajibola and other staff members of the Daily Trust Foundation.
