Eid-el-Kabir: Northern CAN Urges Leaders to Make ‘Double Sacrifice’ for Nigeria’s Security

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has called on Nigeria’s leaders to make a “double sacrifice” to secure the country, citing the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir as a timely reminder of obedience, selflessness, and responsibility.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Northern CAN, Rev.  John Joseph Hayab, the association described the season as one that honors the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim and calls for renewed faith and unity among Nigerians.

“Just as Muslims offer sacrifices in obedience to God during Sallah, our political leaders must also make a double sacrifice to secure Nigeria,” the statement read.

Rev. Hayab expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, noting that citizens are burdened by insecurity, economic hardship, and widespread fear. He said the failure to act decisively has created space for the enemies of peace to thrive.

“It is no longer enough to issue statements or make promises. The government must urgently remedy the conditions that have cast doubt on its commitment to the people. The time has come for visible action that restores public confidence and heals our national wounds,” he stated.

He appealed to Nigerians to use the sacred period to pray for the country’s unity and to support the less privileged. It also urged religious and community leaders to guard against divisive rhetoric and continue promoting peaceful coexistence.

“May Allah accept your prayers and sacrifices, and may this season inspire true leadership, selflessness, and a renewed sense of purpose across our land”.
