The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Rev. Fr.  Polycarp Lubo, Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of CAN and Treasurer of Northern CAN.

Fr. Lubo died in the early hours of Sunday following complications from injuries sustained in a recent auto crash.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev.  Joseph John Hayab, the late cleric was described as a courageous and selfless leader who committed his life to justice, peace, and the welfare of the vulnerable.

“His words during the Plateau Peace Walk,  ‘We deserve to live’  captured the collective anguish of victims of violence, displacement and injustice not only in Plateau but across the country,” the statement read.

Until his death, Fr. Lubo served as the Parish Priest of St. William’s Catholic Church, Zawan, and was widely known for his humility, cheerful disposition, and strong ties across religious and ethnic communities.

Northern CAN further noted that Fr. Lubo was instrumental in fostering interfaith relations, particularly through his collaboration with the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development in efforts to promote immunisation and eradicate polio in Nigeria.

Hayab commended Fr. Lubo’s contribution to the financial and administrative structuring of Northern CAN, saying his passing leaves a huge vacuum in the Christian community.

“We commiserate with the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, the Plateau State CAN leadership, his parishioners, and the broader Christian family”.

The association also called on security agencies and government institutions to honour the late priest’s legacy by strengthening efforts to protect lives and uphold justice in Plateau and beyond.
