The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Northern Nigeria chapter, has expressed deep gratitude and relief over the safe release of worshippers abducted in Kurmin Wali community of Kaduna State, describing their return as a moment of answered prayers and renewed hope for the Church and the affected community.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, commended Governor Uba Sani for what he described as responsive and compassionate leadership during the period of uncertainty.

“We rejoice with the Church and the entire people of Kurmin Wali over the safe return of all the kidnapped worshippers”.

“We particularly commend Governor Uba Sani for demonstrating empathy and a listening ear. He responded to the cries of the people and fulfilled his promise to ensure that the victims were brought back safely.”

The association noted that the successful rescue underscored the importance of synergy between government and security agencies in tackling insecurity across the region.

CAN also applauded the efforts of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security operatives whose coordinated operations led to the victims’ freedom.

The body further acknowledged the support of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their oversight and commitment to safeguarding citizens.

According to Hayab, the safe return of the abducted worshippers reflects the resilience of the affected community and the determination of authorities to address security challenges head-on.

We also urge citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to relevant authorities,” he added.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity and cooperation among faith-based groups and security stakeholders to forestall future attacks and strengthen confidence in ongoing efforts to restore lasting security in Northern Nigeria.
