Kukah Centre in collaboration with Global Peace Foundation Nigeria has called for improved synergy between security agencies and religious leaders to promote peaceful co-existence in Kaduna State.
The country director, Global Peace Foundation, Rev John Joseph Hayab during a one-day dialogue for strengthening synergy between religious leaders and security agencies in Kaduna yesterday said the duo have critical role in restoration of peace in the state.
“We felt that the relationship between religious leaders and security agencies was missing. Most of our people confide in their religious leaders when it comes to security issues, we are building that relationship. we want the security agencies and faith leaders to synergies in finding solution”.
Hayab advised the security agencies to build trust and confidence of the people in order to get the intelligent information needed in fighting insecurity.
“The willingness of security agencies to openly work with people is what is missing in our country. When people see something they are not saying something in Nigeria because they are afraid of not being safe. The security agencies should build trust and confidence of the people they are securing”.
Earlier, the Kaduna State commissioner of justice and attorney general, Barr. Suleiman Shu’aibu disclosed that fairness is the bedrock of peace, saying that there should be fairness and justice in order to achieve peace.
He said that the State governor, Uba Sani is committed in promoting peaceful co-existence in Kaduna, adding that Sani is not a religious bigot.
Program Officer, Kukah Centre Kaduna office, Methodius Karfe urged faith leaders to preach truth to members in order to save the country from crisis, he added.
Karfe also urged Nigerians to be peace ambassadors, love one another irrespective of tribe or religion, he said.
The northern coordinator, Global Peace, Imam Halilu Maraya tasked religious leaders on sincerity.
On his part, Group Captain Tahir Isah from Nigerian Air Force (NAF) blamed insecurity on unemployment, saying that Idleness led so many youths to crime and criminality.
He urged government to create jobs for unemployed youths in order to take them off the streets .
