Northern Christians Lament Persistent Attacks During Holy Week

The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has decried recent violent attacks in parts of Kaduna and Plateau States, saying the incidents have cast a shadow over Easter celebrations.

In a statement signed by Chairman Rev. Joseph John Hayab and Secretary-General Bishop Mohammed Naga, the association condemned the attacks, saying a time meant for reflection and spiritual renewal has been marred by grief, fear, and uncertainty.

The group warned that the insecurity is not limited to Kaduna and Plateau, highlighting ongoing incidents in Benue, Borno, Niger, and Taraba States, where killings and abductions remain a serious concern.

“The recurring attacks during the Christian holy week raise serious questions about the effectiveness of current security measures and the authorities’ ability to protect citizens”.

NCA cautioned that continued violence could normalize insecurity, deepen the suffering of affected communities, and erode public confidence in the government’s capacity to guarantee safety.

The association called on the federal government and security agencies to move beyond routine condemnations, urging decisive action to break the cycle of violence and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Christian body also appealed to religious, traditional, and community leaders to intensify efforts in promoting unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across Northern Nigeria.

Despite the challenges, the association stressed that the Easter message remains one of hope and renewal, encouraging Christians to remain steadfast in faith and resist fear.

The association reaffirmed its call for a society where citizens of all faiths can live and worship freely, urging renewed commitment to peace, justice, and security.
