A group of Nigerian youth under the platform of the International World Youth Day for Unemployed Youth of Nigeria has threatened to confer an ‘Award of Dishonour’ on the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba.

The group said the controversial category was created to draw attention to what it described as avoidable moral failures in public service and to promote accountability among elected officials.

In a statement issued by the event coordinator, Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince, the group explained that the “Award of Dishonour” was not meant to ridicule individuals but to promote civic responsibility and accountability among public office holders.

According to the statement, the decision followed growing concerns among unemployed youths about governance and the perceived lack of responsiveness by some elected representatives.

The group noted that the symbolic presentation of the award is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2026, at the entrance of the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

They explained that the youth-led initiative was intended to draw national attention to the challenges facing young Nigerians, particularly unemployment and economic hardship.

“The category was introduced to highlight avoidable moral failings in public duty and encourage greater accountability in governance”.

The organisers further stated that the event forms part of activities commemorating the International World Youth Day for unemployed youths in Nigeria, which seeks to amplify the voices of young people and push for more inclusive policies.

They added that beyond the symbolic award, the programme would also feature advocacy campaigns, public engagements and dialogue aimed at promoting responsible leadership and improved public service delivery.

The group urged political leaders to view the initiative as constructive civic engagement rather than confrontation, stressing that Nigerian youths remain committed to democratic accountability and national development.

Observers say the move reflects growing frustration among young Nigerians who continue to grapple with unemployment and limited economic opportunities despite repeated government assurances of reforms.

Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the lawmaker for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
