The Ndigbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT) has responded to recent comments by former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, regarding the 2027 presidential election.
Obi, who spoke during a radio interview in Aba, had expressed concerns about factors affecting his political prospects within the opposition.
In a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke, NDI-ABAT dismissed Obi’s claims as misleading and unfounded, saying they were a diversion from the challenges he faces within his own political party.
The forum said that Obi’s anxieties stem from his perceived difficulties in securing support from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the ADC primaries, rather than any interference from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement further noted Obi’s history of political nominations without contesting party primaries, highlighting his gubernatorial selection under APGA and his 2023 Labour Party presidential candidacy.
NDI-ABAT also contrasted his record with those of former Southeast governors, Senator Dave Umahi and Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, describing them as more transformative leaders with credentials supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forum concluded by urging Obi to reassess his political strategy and embrace democratic principles as he navigates his aspirations for the 2027 elections.
