The co-recipient of the Commonwealth Peace Prize, Rev. Dr. James Wuye, has commended the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) for its sustained efforts in promoting climate change awareness through both online and offline platforms.
Rev. Wuye gave the commendation during a brief meeting held at Teku International Farms, Kaduna, where he acknowledged the group’s consistent advocacy on environmental protection, particularly on issues such as bush burning, pollution, and other forms of environmental degradation.
He said he had been following KADCCAM’s activities through newspapers, radio, and online media, noting their continuous engagement with government agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders on environmental sustainability.

He also praised the Kaduna State Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, alongside members of KADCCAM, for their contributions toward improving environmental awareness and protection in the state.
Rev. Wuye urged residents to support government efforts aimed at safeguarding the environment from all forms of degradation.
In his response, the co-chair of KADCCAM, Ibrahima Yakubu, described environmental protection as a collective responsibility, stressing the need for sustained action against ecological challenges affecting human life and biodiversity in the state.
He commended Rev. Wuye for his efforts in promoting peace and innovative ideas that support environmental sustainability.
Yakubu added that since the establishment of KADCCAM by the Kaduna State Government, the body has implemented several advocacy and media campaigns targeted at environmental protection.
He called on civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, and religious leaders to join the campaign against desertification, deforestation, erosion, and other environmental threats.
The Commonwealth Peace Prize is part of a multi-phase collaboration between the Khalili Foundation and the Commonwealth Secretariat aimed at supporting peacebuilding initiatives across member states.
In 2025, Rev. Dr. James Wuye and Imam Nuraini Ashafa were among the recipients of the award from Nigeria.
