Hon. Shehu Usman Bawa, popularly known as ABG, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State after a resounding victory at the party’s primary election held on Sunday, 25 May 2026.
Announcing the result on Monday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal, said Bawa secured a total of 124,170 votes to defeat Hon. Haruna Kajuru AG, who polled 22,010 votes.
He explained that the exercise was conducted in line with party guidelines and was concluded peacefully, with delegates from all 23 local government areas of the state participating in the exercise.
“Having scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Hon. Shehu Usman Bawa ABG as the duly elected governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State”.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his victory was declared, ABG called for unity among party members, urging stakeholders to close ranks and work collectively toward victory in the 2027 general elections.
He extended a hand of fellowship to other aspirants, stressing that internal competition should now give way to reconciliation, healing, and shared purpose within the party.
Bawa identified insecurity as a major challenge confronting Kaduna State, pledging that his administration would prioritise restoration of peace through stronger collaboration with security agencies, community policing initiatives, and improved intelligence gathering.
Beyond security, he outlined his broader agenda, which includes economic recovery, youth empowerment, education reform, healthcare improvement, and infrastructure development if elected governor.
