A former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Sports Development to former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, Vincent Akinbami, has called on eligible voters in the state to turn out en masse for the August 15 governorship election and support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Murideen Bola Oyebamiji.
Speaking at a press briefing, Akinbami said Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has articulated policies aimed at transforming the state’s economy through reforms, job creation and improved internally generated revenue (IGR).
According to him, the APC governorship candidate has pledged to implement economic and financial reforms, diversify the economy, enforce fiscal discipline and block revenue leakages in government.
He added that Oyebamiji also plans to build a knowledge-based economy by partnering with higher institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and polytechnics in the state to drive innovation and human capital development.
Akinbami further said the APC candidate intends to prioritise agriculture, solid minerals and tourism to attract investment, establish new industries, create jobs and expand the state’s revenue base.
On sports development, the former aide said Oyebamiji has promised to revive the sector by identifying and nurturing talented athletes while providing them with opportunities to compete at higher levels.
He disclosed that the governorship candidate has also pledged to convene a meeting with stakeholders across the various sports associations immediately after assuming office to identify the challenges facing the sector and chart a way forward.
According to Akinbami, Oyebamiji is committed to returning Osun United Football Club and Osun Babes Football Club to Nigeria’s top-flight leagues as part of efforts to reposition sports in the state.
He quoted the APC candidate as saying that sports remain a major source of employment and youth empowerment, adding that the sector would receive priority attention under his administration.
Akinbami urged the people of Osun State not to miss what he described as an opportunity to elect a vibrant leader, calling on them to vote for Oyebamiji in the August 15 governorship election.
