Old students of Government College Saminaka, formerly Government Secondary School Saminaka, have pledged to mobilise support for the re-election of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general election.
The old students, under the aegis of the Saminaka Old Students Association (SAMOSA), also announced plans to honour Sani with an award of excellence during the 52nd anniversary of the school scheduled for November 28, 2026.
Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Barrister Suleiman Lere, disclosed this at a press conference in Kaduna over the weekend.
Lere said the school had produced prominent Nigerians across various fields, including military officers, doctors, engineers, scientists, captains of industry, lawyers and politicians, among them Governor Sani.
He commended the governor for what he described as progress recorded in the education sector, particularly the renovation of dilapidated school structures and provision of modern facilities.
According to him, SAMOSA is proud to identify with the governor’s achievements and has resolved to support his bid for a second term in office.
“Based on the track record of good governance he has initiated, embraced and implemented, SAMOSA is delighted to be associated with these achievements and wish to also announce our unflinching support for his continuation in office as our governor for a second term,” he said.
Lere, however, urged the governor to give greater attention to Government College Saminaka, describing it as a school that should benefit from the administration’s education interventions.
He called for the rehabilitation of the old structures and upgrading of facilities at the college to provide a conducive learning environment for students.
The chairman also appealed to old students to contribute towards improving the academic and infrastructural standards of the institution.
He said the rehabilitation of the school required a collective effort by government, old students and other stakeholders, noting that attention should be given to classrooms, hostels, perimeter fencing and recreational facilities.
Lere further said the 52nd anniversary would provide an opportunity for old students to renew their commitment to the development of the institution and support efforts to restore it to a standard capable of serving as a model for other schools.
