2027: Tinubu’s Re-election Bid Gets Women’s Support

BY JULIET EKWENUGO, Kaduna

The National Coordinator of the Tinubu Health Sector Practitioners Alliance (TIHSEPA), Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri has urged Nigerian women and healthcare professionals to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Lokpobiri, wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, made the call on Friday in Abuja, urging Nigerians to support the administration’s reform agenda despite the difficulties associated with some of its policies.

She said the reforms were aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges and repositioning the country for sustainable economic growth and greater global relevance.

According to her, while the policies have created difficulties for some citizens, their long-term objectives and potential benefits should also be considered.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated the courage to take difficult decisions in the interest of the country. While reforms may come with challenges, we must also look at their broader objectives and the opportunities they are creating for a stronger and more sustainable Nigeria,” she said.

The TIHSEPA coordinator also urged women to participate more actively in national politics, describing their involvement as important to the country’s development.

“Women cannot afford to remain on the sidelines. We have a responsibility to participate actively in the affairs of our country and to support policies and programmes that we believe will advance the wellbeing of our families and communities,” she added.

She called on women across the country to mobilise peacefully in support of government programmes focused on healthcare, social welfare, family support and economic empowerment.

Lokpobiri also commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as an “Icon of Impact” for her interventions targeting women, children and vulnerable Nigerians.

She cited the Renewed Hope Initiative and other programmes addressing social welfare, healthcare, education and economic empowerment as efforts that, in her view, complement the administration’s development agenda.

On healthcare, Lokpobiri urged practitioners to contribute to policy discussions and apply their professional expertise to efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.

She described healthcare as a key driver of productivity and economic development, stressing the need for accessible services that respond to citizens’ needs.

Lokpobiri said TIHSEPA would continue to mobilise healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to support improvements in the health sector and contribute to national development.
