The Executive Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hon. Dauda Madaki, has appealed to the management of Kaduna State University (KASU) to establish a study centre in the area to expand access to higher education.
Madaki made the appeal yesterday during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, saying the proposed centre would provide young people, displaced families and other residents with opportunities to pursue higher education closer to their communities.
He said many young people in Kajuru faced challenges accessing quality education due to the distance, cost and difficulty associated with travelling to established centres of learning.
Madaki said establishing a KASU study centre in Kajuru would bring higher education closer to the people and provide displaced families and orphaned youths with an opportunity to rebuild their futures through education.
He added that the initiative would reduce the financial and logistical burden on families who could no longer afford to send their children far from home to pursue higher education.
The chairman commended the Vice-Chancellor for what he described as the transformation and remarkable progress recorded by the university under his leadership.
He cited the establishment of various centres, successful accreditation exercises, the Distance Learning Centre, Soft Skills Short Courses and Higher Executive Courses as some of the initiatives that had expanded access to education and professional development.
Madaki said the initiatives demonstrated visionary leadership and had contributed to repositioning KASU among the leading state universities in Northern Nigeria.
He appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to extend the same vision to Kajuru, saying the establishment of a study centre would enable residents to access higher education without the challenges associated with travelling long distances.
Madaki further disclosed that Kajuru Local Government was ready to support the initiative by providing the necessary logistics and other local facilities required for the smooth take-off and operation of the proposed centre.
He said the local government’s readiness to support the project would make its establishment more feasible.
The chairman also commended the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his support for the education sector and the enabling environment provided for KASU to thrive.
He said the governor’s commitment to security, human capital development and the general wellbeing of residents continued to give hope to communities such as Kajuru.
Madaki expressed confidence that KASU, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, would continue to expand access to education and contribute to rebuilding communities across Kaduna State.
